Summer Festival 2017

AUGUST 14 — AUGUST 18

1845 Northern Blvd, Manhasset, Long Island

The festival welcomes string players, wind players (NYSSMA levels 5 and 6) and pianists ages 6 – 18. Students will be placed in chamber groups according to their age and level. Students will participate in rehearsals and coachings given by our faculty and guest artists. The festival will feature chamber music, enhanced orchestral experience, chorus, an evening master class for selected students, conducting symposium, music theory and individualized attention for all students.

Monday, August 14-Thursday, August 17, 2:00-6:30pm
Friday, August 18, 3:00-8:15pm
(Friday evening performance for all at 6:30)

On Wednesday evening we will have a pizza party—all festival students & families are invited to stay, eat & enjoy the fun! Following the party, selected students will perform in our guest artist master class with acclaimed violinist and chamber musician Melissa White of the Harlem String Quartet. Everyone is welcome to attend. There will be an additional charge of $50 for those performing in the master class.

The festival will culminate in performances given by all groups on Friday, August 18 at 6:30pm.
Family and friends are invited to join us for the concert.

This summer we are offering a Conducting Symposium given by Maestro Leon Gregorian, Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Michigan State University, for interested students. Experienced conducting students welcome!

REGISTRATION

Tuition for the festival is $575 per person (or  $540 per person if registered and paid in full by May 19, 2017). Families registering 2 or more siblings can subtract 5% from the total registration. Participation in all 5 days is required. Scholarships available. Please make checks payable to “Suzuki on the Island LLC” and mail them to:

To register please email the following information about your child(ren) to Administrative Assistant, Caroline Cox (ccox@suzukiontheisland.com):
1 – NAME, 2 – AGE, 3 – INSTRUMENT, 4- CURRENT REPERTOIRE and LEVEL and
NAME OF PRIVATE TEACHER (for students who are not currently enrolled in SOTI)
and 5 – T SHIRT SIZE (specify youth or adult S, M, L or XL. Shirts tend to run small).
**New students: In addition to the information required above, please provide us
with a short video (approximately 5 minutes) with a piece or two from your current repertoire.  This will allow us to  appropriately place you in your ensembles.
Piano accompaniment is welcomed but not required for the video.
